Near Space Conference

Celem projektu Near Space jest popularyzacja wiedzy na temat wyższych partii ziemskiej atmosfery i bliskiej przestrzeni kosmicznej.

W ramach projektu jest realizowana konferencja “Near Space”, będąca międzynarodowym forum wymiany wiedzy i doświadczeń w zakresie eksploracji stratosfery i kosmosu.

W projekcie biorą udział partnerzy z Czech, Polski, Słowacji, Serbii i Węgier. W latach 2017-2019 projekt był współfinansowany ze środków Międzynarodowego Funduszu Wyszehradzkiego.

Konferencje Near Space/Near Space Conferences

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The intended project is dedicated to tackle the problem of decreasing number of young people choosing careers in area of science and technology.
The consortium members representing all V4 countries intends to answer the above challenge by near space exploration popularization. For years it was not accessible for the members of general public but now, thanks to technological progress more and more people can have a hand-on experience with space and space research.
This are is particularly important due to increasing importance of space in our lives and in the economy (satellite communication, medical research, new sources of energy etc.).

The main project objective is to organize the international conference during which hobbyists  from V4 countries will share with their experience and achievements in near space exploration. Moreover during the workshops general public visiting Centrum Nowoczesności Młyn Wiedzy will have an opportunity to take part in various „space” activities”. As a result of intended project is to increase the number of young people choosing scientific career. Conference will take place on May 20th 2017 in the Innovation Centre Mill of Knowledge (Toruń, Poland).

The intended project is to encourage young hobbyists to develop their interest in stratospheric research and to show kids during workshops that science and technology are not beyond their comprehension. Therefore the purpose of intended project is to organize an international conference for near space research hobbyists (students, school and academic teachers). During the event they will share their experience and present their achievements. The highlight of the event will be loss of stratospheric balloons. Moreover during the conference will be organized workshops open for the members of general public visiting Innovation Centre Mill of Knowledge.

Space exploration is dynamic sphere of scientific research and business opportunities. Therefore it is necessary for V4 countries to participate in the scientific and technological development in this area. The crucial factor are human resources (skilled and experienced workers). In order to fulfill the demand generated by local and international companies representing booming space sector more and more young people should choose career in science and technology. The most effective way to do that is to interest them in embarking on this career path by igniting their imagination with a hand – on space experience.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Citizen science is a research in which volunteers cooperate with professional researchers, as well as the form of scientific education, the form of cooperation in research and social movement. Citizen science is a new dimension of civil society. This is an evolving form of education consisting in gathering observations by project participants. The consortium members representing all V4 countries intends to answer the above by popularization of citizen science (in the field of near space exploration and research). Presently, due to technological progress more and more people can have a hands-on experience with space research. This is particularly important due to increasing relevance of space in our lives and for the economy. Space technologies give our society unprecedented opportunities and benefits. One of them is the potential to be able to harness the curiosity and skills of engineers and scientists, as well as citizens resulting in unique projects. Projects involving society in science are still not very popular. The consortium encourages society and individuals to participate in citizen science. The project proves that science is available to everyone and anyone can become a scientist. The project also has an additional dimension. Specific project objectives are strengthening cooperation between consortium members and promotion of V4 dimension.

The aim of project is to encourage young hobbyists to explore their interest in stratospheric research by engaging them in a scientific experiment (form of social project).

The project will include a miniSAT program dedicated to pupils, students, citizens. MiniSAT is an experiment of the size of a ping pong ball.1000 pingpong „satellites” prepared by participants will be sent to the stratospheric using a stratospheric balloon during the conference.

Moreover during conference participants (students, school and academic teachers, other passionates) can present their achievements in this field.During the conference also will be organized varied activities for visitors showing how we can explore universe without sophisticated equipment. The highlight of the event will be loss of stratospheric balloons. Moreover during the conference will be organized workshops and popular science mini-picnic open for the members of general public visiting Innovation Centre Mill of Knowledge.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Is space exploration and technologies important in our lives? How can I become a space explorer? What is necessary to explore near space? What achievements institutions from V4+ countries have in area of space exploration? For those and other questions the consortium members and invited speakers would like to answer during implementing a project Near Space 2019 Above and Beyond.

In recent years the cosmic industry in V4+ (members of Visegrad Fund, Western Balkans and Eastern partnership) countries has been booming. Additionally more and more funding is accessible for space science research for companies and research institutions. As a result companies and researchers from the V4+ countries are sending into orbit satellites used for scientific and commercial purposes and participate in missions to planets and other celestial bodies. It shows a great potential both scientific and business.

The main goal of the project is to show the broad range of recipients that the space exploration generally and near space exploration particularly is accessible virtually for everyone and it has an growing impact on our daily life.

Bearing that in mind, the intended project focuses on the following:

  • to present achievement of V4+ countries in the area of near space exploration,
  • to spark imagination of younger audience by showing that space is not a final frontier for humankind but a “land” of opportunity by i.e. giving an opportunity to conduct scientific experiments in near space using stratospheric balloons (miniSAT).

As a part of project`s implementation  following tasks will be carried out:

  • organizing a Near Space Conference 2019 Above and Beyond – during which speakers representing a diverse group of near space explorers and researchers will present their achievements and experiences,
  • losses of stratospheric balloons with payload consisting of research equipment and miniSAT experiments,
  • “space” mini – picnic – activities for Innovation Centre Mill of Knowledge visitors,
  • developing educational materials.

The term of the workshops and the conference:

  • 18/10/2019: workshops and launches of stratospheric baloons
  • 19/10/2019: conference Near Space: Above and Beyond

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Space becomes more and more important aspect of our daily live on Earth. It is impossible to image modern communication without satellites. New medicines are developed using micro-gravity environment onboard ISS. Plans for Moon and Mars colonization and space mining are not SF anymore but a part of developed and implemented business strategies.

Additionally, the second decade of XXI century was marked by more and more intense “space race” between states and private companies. This creates a rising demand for specialists in area of space technologies and research. It is particularly important in the case of V4+ countries (members of Visegrad Group, Western Balkans and EU Eastern Partnership) which have substantial results in this area but it is still to be done. In order to achieve a success in “space race”the first step to be taken is boosting education with popularization of near space science and technological achievements. It can be done by showing schoolchildren and students that near space research and exploration is accessible first steps towards scientific careers can be taken on even early stage of education.

Second major aspect of contemporary “space race” and the intended result of the planned project is to show how important is combining scientific drive to discover and business approach. Therefore, the main goal of the intended project is to interest young people in near space research and exploration done by researchers and companies from V4+ countries.
